Sunshine in Amsterdam

On Sunday, I started work early to be finished as soon as possible for a trip I was unbearably excited for - going to meet one of the best people I know (a glorious Greek-Dutch babe) one of my closest friends, and her friend (that I'd heard so much about I felt I already knew) visiting on a business trip in Amsterdam. I caught the first train I could to Amsterdam central, and then took a metro to the park by the Rijksmuseum to meet them there.

After meeting and an appropriate amount of freaking out and hugging, we spent the afternoon sitting on the grass in the park catching up on everything. Unfortunately we had only limited time, as there were planes and trains and appointments to be made, but we scheduled ourselves well and were able to take a walk through the city before finding somewhere to eat.

Although we attempted to find somewhere Greek to eat dinner, time constraints meant we ended up at a seafood tapas restaurant instead. After a selection of octopus, Spanish omelet, meat balls, steak skewers, roast peppers, tomato bread, and spinach with lemon, it was time to walk to the station. We walked back through the Bloemenmarkt, a strip of market stalls displaying tulip bulbs and souvenirs on floating barges in the centre of the city.

It was sad to say goodbye, but we were happy to realise that we would be in London at the same time in a little over a month, and so I am already thinking about what it would be nice to do or show there - in return for the most incredible tour of Athens earlier this year.  Feeling happy and well fed, I returned to Haarlem ready for a calm evening in preparation for a planned long bike ride the coming day. Tot dan!
