On my own today, I begun early with a shopping list for the centre town. Preparing to host a wedding party at the hostel on Thursday, everything is being repaired/replaced/updated/decorated so there are plenty of jobs. I passed the Amsterdam port (from my list) on the way into town, and although I didn't have time to look around inside, it was definitely impressive from the outside.

Despite the hitch of getting caught with the bridge being raised both on the way to town and on the way back, I managed to get everything that was on the list, however the next shopping expedition was considerably more exciting. If you've ever wondered where restaurants and hotels buy their huge quantities of food and mints, then here is your answer! A specialised warehouse style building on the outskirts of the general shopping area, Sligro is open only to business owners (you need a card to get in!) and is a wonderland for bulk-buying discounts. The shopping list? 70 euro of croquette and bitterballen of course.

Once the work was done it was time to check another thing off the list before a
borreltje for hostel owners of the Netherlands was to be held back at Hello than evening. Toneelschuur is a theatre-concert venue-cinema for alternative, independent, and international productions. I had really been looking forward to Louis Theroux's upcoming Scientology documentary, and this was the perfect place to see it.

The cinema was small, charming, and super cozy filled with big arm chairs, and the film was incredible. Although completely different from what I was expecting, it was an original and different look at the position of the cult-like religion today, with lots of lovely English awkwardness. On the way back we enjoyed a traditional dinner of frikandel and falafel courtesy of the boss before heading to join the nights party, which should be made even better by not having to be awake very early tomorrow to work! Tot dan!
